Losing weight is one thing that almost all people are faced with at some point in their lives. Obesity is one of the leading causes of death and in many instances it is preventable and treatable. There are many weight loss plans to choose from and one of the most popular choices currently are low carbohydrate diets.
A low carbohydrate food plan is based on the premise that the dieter only eats foods that aren't high in carbohydrates. There have been several well known diets that fall into this category. Many books are available that explain in detail how the diet works and gives example of low carbohydrate foods and meal plans.
Although these types of diets are successful for many people there are aspects of eating strictly low carbohydrate foods that are a concern. Many low carbohydrate food plans encourage eating a large quantity of high fat foods. One of these foods is beef. Red meat has health benefits when it's consumed in limited portions. However on a low carbohydrate plan more beef is consumed and for someone with high cholesterol this can be something to moderate.
Eggs are also another food that many people on a low carbohydrate diet consume. As with red meat, eggs are beneficial when eaten in moderation but most medical experts warn against consuming them on a daily basis.
Quite often on a low carbohydrate diet the individual will lose a few pounds very quickly at the onset. This is true with many diet plans. On a low carbohydrate plan as with the others this is caused by water loss. It is a good motivator though and when a person who wants to lose weight, sees the number on the scale decreasing they are excited and are more likely to stick with the plan.
As with any other diet, exercise plays an important role in success. Although some people following a low carbohydrate plan may feel listless, getting active tends to help with that. The exercise routine doesn't need to involve visiting an expensive gym or purchasing equipment. A daily walk or slow jog is an excellent way to get exercise and lose weight. If you don't like walking alone than take the family dog along, it will enjoy the change of scenery and exercise too.
Before starting any diet plan it's wise to talk with your doctor. This includes any of the low carbohydrate diets. Drastically changing your eating habits can have a strong effect on the way your body functions and it's a good idea to keep your doctor abreast of what you're doing.
So many Americans struggle to drop that excess weight. Why do you think this is? Well, let me drop everyone a big hint. Stop eating fast food! No offense, but only an idiot would think they could gobble down a fat Big Mac every day and stay thin in the process. You're killing yourselves with the junk food. Other countries are snickering behind our backs and laughing at our obesity epidemic. Okay, who am I kidding; they're laughing in our faces. It's become a cliche expression these days. "Are you fat like those Americans?" We need to put an end to this dilemma once and for all. It's time to banish the fast food joints and drive-thrus, folks. Let's ignore them altogether. You know they're only killing you. You see, other than loads of fat, salt, and cholesterol, we're always consuming far too many carbs. Therefore it's high time for low carbohydrate diets.
Can anyone ponder the most famous of low carbohydrate diets? I would have to go with the whole Atkins thing. Not that I think of it as one of the more effective low carbohydrate diets, but I would say it's probably the most well-known. However, from what I saw of this particular high protein diet plan, I would not recommend it. There is such a thing as too much meat. As we all should be aware of by now, our bodies need daily vitamins and nutrients to function properly and stay healthy. You know what that means. You certainly should be taking a multivitamin every day and consuming lots of water. Furthermore, you should strive to get all of your nutrients from you three meals. It is feasible to have low carbohydrate diets that provide all vitamins and minerals.
Have you ever heard of supplementation? This is a rather popular concept in recent times. So many individuals are looking high and low for healthier alternatives. One of the big nutrients we all strive to acquire in great amounts is protein. However, did you know that you don't necessarily have to eat three portions of meat each day to get it? There are protein supplements galore. Anything from snack bars, to milk shakes, to tofu can be eaten instead. If you are struggling to adopt one of the healthy low carbohydrate diets, you may want to do a little recon work first. Get online now and find out which low carbohydrate diets are the most recommended by professionals.
